IMG_1331 Sometimes it is nice to head down the road and see some sights in your own backyard. We took a drive over to Three Lakes about 45 minutes from Hazelhurst to see The Petroleum Museum. It was featured on Discovery Wisconsin a few years ago. Ed who runs it for the love of anything old having to do with Gas Station memorabila lets you in for free and has a bucket for donations. He has collected an amazing collection that is fun to see on a rainy day in the Northwoods. Three Lakes is also a wonderful small town to walk around in. Even has a small town cafe and NO WALMART! The drive over on County D is worth the trip as well IMG_1332 theIMG_1334 The museum is hard to miss from the road with all the signs. It is 2 miles North of Three Lakes on Hwy 45. You can either take County D over through Lake Tomahawk or go to Eagle River and come down hwy 45 IMG_1319 This was one of my favorites an old car play set from the 40's IMG_1320 Ed has everything lit up and it is fun to step back in time IMG_1321 Another of my favorites and old gas pump from the 1920's painstakingly restorted into mint condition IMG_1322 Information on the guy who donated the pump to the museum IMG_1323 Can we go back to these gas prices? IMG_1326 If it has to do with gas and gas stations, Ed has it and will tell the story behind each piece. It is nice to meet someone who has a passion for what he does and gets such enjoyment in sharing with others IMG_1327 IMG_1328 Ed also has a small selection of Harley Racing things. One of his relatives was a racer for Harley in the old days IMG_1330 The Gas Station Christmas village cracked me up. Only at the Petroleum Museum in Three Lakes would you find this IMG_1342 After exploring Three Lakes for the day we stopped in to the Old Stag restaurant. What a treat. It is in the old dry good and post office store with old hardwood floors. You can imagine folks meeting here as it was the gathering place of the town. It now specializes in German Food. They had Weiner Schnitzel and other forms of Schnitzel and everything else German along with good beer. If you are looking for a new (old) restaurant to try in the area you might consider a drive over to Three Lakes. Google Old Stag restaurant Three Lakes and you can see their entire menu As a side note when you are at the Old Stag Restaurant you have to check out the neighbor they have across the street for a laugh. I will leave you in suspense as to what it is
